The Music of Dam 999 is composed by the National Film Award Winner Ouseppachan. Sohan Roy, Sajeev Sarathie, Nivedya have penned the Lyrics. The Story is written by Rob Tobin, Sohan Roy. Cinematography is done by Ajay Vincent. Suresh Pai has done the Editing. Choreography is by Prasanna. Anal Arasu has choreographed the Stunts.
Dam 999 is getting released in 3D format. It is to be made available in three regional languages namely Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, and also in English.
The movie Dam 999 is based on the Award winning Short Documentary “DAMs - The Lethal Water Bombs” and the Banqiao dam disaster of 1975, which took the lives of 250,000 people in China.
The film Dam 999 is an emotional thriller. This venture presents the concepts of Ayurveda, and also the lost love against the backdrop of the story of a dilapidated colonial dam.
This story revolves around the central edifice of a 100-year-old dam built by the British during their colonial rule in India. This also portrays the concealed truth of India's age-old myths and science.
Dam 999 is the outcome of the inspirations of many real-life incidents. This picture is a tribute to the 250,000 people who lost their lives in the 1975 Banqiao Dam disaster in China. Dam 999 is like a tribute to the lost souls of the World's worst man made Dam disasters, which claimed huge toll of lives. The collapse of this dam was worse than the disaster, which happened at Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
According to Director Sohan, “The central character of the story is this dam and the life of a few mariners living near it. There are nine characters in the movie, representing the Navarasas. I believe that every individual is born with a sthayi bhava, but when his suppressed feelings burst, like a dam, it changes”. Sohan Roy also introduces a new toy, a solid action figure, named “Octopian Boy”, through this film.
The shooting of Dam 999 commenced in Alleppey, Kerala. Later, the movie was filmed in Ooty in India, and then moved on to Fujairah, Dubai. Some scenes of Dam 999 were also filmed on the longest oil tanker vessel, ever filmed. The Climax of the movie was filmed in a very costly set in the Ramoji film city in Hyderabad. The Art Direction for this was done by the Art Director Padmashree Thotta Tharani.
Dam 999 grabbed the attention of the whole World, during its Post production stages, due to its story and the title. Due to this, Debates regarding the ever existing fear of the outdated dams around the World, started to spring up.
Following this Dam 999, Award winning Film maker James Cameron also plans to make a movie based on dams. Director Sohan Roy has guaranteed that, the visual effects of Dam 999 would surely be of top class, as it is done by Prasad EFX, one of the most reputed visual effects company in India.
Dam 999 used the latest technology of 2D to 3-D conversion, in order to retain the naturality of a real disaster. This state-of-the-art and true to life conversion was carried out at Rays Magna 3D.
The unique aspect of this movie is Warner Bros. are releasing the Dam 999 in both 2D and 3D formats on 25th November 2011 in India and all around the World.
