Review
Udumban is yet another film that comes with a strong theme in the story. But, the film fails to stand apart with a poor script and pathetic execution of it.
Udumban is a petty thief, who takes the help of his monitor lizard to climb high buildings for his profession. As the returns of his tiring efforts goes only to the keep the troubling police in good humour the man decides to do something else and starts a school. While everything was going well Udumban lands in jail, and he gets released only to find his brother, who had taken charge of the school, amassed huge wealth cheating parents. Udumban takes on his brother now, and as a reformed man strive for providing free education.
Racer Dilip Rogger as Udumban tries his best to do justice to the role. Sunil as Udumban’s brother sometimes irritates with his acting. Sana and Geethika do not have much to perform and they also just share screen space with the protagonist. Only Kambam Meena puts that worthy show as Udumban’s mother.
S Balan’s script and directorial skills need lot of improvement as he terribly failed to execute an excellent concept. But, he can be appreciated for taking up this theme.
Music is also by S Balan. Again, his work is not up to the mark. Especially the background score. Cinematography by Kichas is one of the very few departments that deserve a pat. Same with editing, a good work by V T Vijayan.
Udumban is watchable, but don’t enter theatres with high expectations…!
