Review
Sonia Agarwal was once ruling the roost of Tamil cinema as one of the most sought-after heroines. But, her sudden marriage to her director-mentor Selvaraghavan put a full stop to her film career that time. But, it all happened that the actress was separated, and eventually divorced, as the marriage failed. Sonia Agarwal wanted to regain the lost glory and made her foray into films again. But, it was always she felt that she wanted revenge sort of thing for her failed marriage and the reasons for it.
Director Raj Krishna came with the story of ‘Oru Nadigayin Vakkumoolam’ and Sonia Agarwal took no time to grab the offer as if she was hungrily waiting for a script exactly like this.
‘Oru Nadigayin Vakkumoolam’ elaborates the story of an actress who rises to the top, from the rags to the riches. From outside the life of an actress looks so glamourous, cheerful and contented. But, the journey of becoming a star is not an easy one as it looks. It is full of constant struggles and big difficulties… This is that what the film portrays with a life and story of an actress in the film.
Sonia Agarwal has shouldered the entire script standing all alone with her sincere and dedicated performance. The looks, body language and the tone she has delivered to make the difference for the four different looks that she has portrayed in the film shows that the actress has also evolved as a performing star too.
First she comes as a poor village girl, who struggles to lead a basic life. Then she portrays a girl who comes to K-town in search of a chance to act. In the third, she becomes an established actress. The fourth one is what the actress in the story becomes to establish herself and avenge for the struggles she had!
The supporting performances of other actors like Nicole, Punnagai Poo Geetha, Kovai Sarala, Ganja Karuppu and RajKapoor have contributed big for the film.
Rajkrishna has directed the film. The director should be, at first place, appreciated for his attempt to make a decent making of the film in spite of a bold story that offers a big opportunity of inclusion of many sensual scenes in the film.
Music is scored by Aathish. Some tracks touche you with the lyrics Na. Muthukumar and Sembiah. Background score also adds power to the script.
Naga Krishna has handled the camera; his work is a big plus for the film. Editing is by Vasu, could have done better!
Punnagai Poo Geetha has produced the film under the banner SG Films.
‘Oru Nadigayin Vakkumoolam’ is watchable, but not more than once!
Tail piece: One sincere advice to Sonia, Ms. Sonia, it is appreciated that you wanted to prove yourself as a heroine again, but how long your present matured looks would cooperate? You can prove yourself (yes, you are talented, otherwise) by choosing the roles your looks support, one ‘Oru Nadigayin Vakkumoolam’ can click, but not again and again!
