Review
After a gap of very, very long years of time this colourful (!) actor has made a big attempt with this ‘Medhai’ to launch himself in the tinsel town, and we should first appreciate Ramarajan’s confindence (!) in himself!
‘Medhai’ has everything a perfect, typical ‘Ramarajan’ masala film should have, but the thing is, the film should have been released during the days of his ‘Karagaattakaaran’!
The protagonist (Ramarajan) is a learned wise man, who institutionalizes a trust for the poor child labourers to send them back to school. Kottaikumar, who was running his factory with child labourers, is troubled with the good deeds of Ramarajan. Kottaikumar plots to put Ramarajan in prison and makes big damages to his family. Young wife and mother are eliminated by the villain, and now how the protagonist reforms the villain and saves the trust forms the climax.
Ramarajan is the same what he did years back - colourful shirts, punch dialogues and a small group of men around him. Only change is his physique that he appears chubby and fat, and older! In terms of his performance, nothing special to mention, but he has attempted to bring the glory of his old days.
Heroine Kaushika has nothing to do except romancing and shed some tears. Kottaikumar’s performance is just another good old day’s villainous act. And, the team meant to tickle our funny bones, only bring a wry smile on face.
Director N T G Saravanan should come out of those memories of old films and watch the present films to learn the trend if he wants to continue making films.
Except one song, Dhina’s effort has gone waste as no way the music of the film helps ‘Medhai’.
Ashok’s Camera work, at some places, is the only solace in the film.
What we can say, finally is, Mr. Ramarajan, we really appreciate your self-confidence but, if you really want to become ‘Medhai’ to the position that you were enjoying in the days of yore, please take roles that suits you – a character role, may be or direction!
‘Medhai’ is for the filmgoers who want to experience and enjoy (!) the comical misadventures of some Tamil filmmakers!
‘Medhai’ is a comedy of Errors!
