After few flops Simbhu was put on track back with the blockbuster movies Gautham Menon’s ‘Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya’ and recently ‘Vaanam’! The multifaceted actor is waiting for the Hat trick with his next outing ‘Osthi’!
Simbhu plays a rude police officer called Vel Murugan in this upcoming film. The versatile actor has changed his getup for the film with tough workouts and strict diet to give a look of a tough police officer.
‘Osthi’ is actually a Tamil remake of Bollywood blockbuster ‘Dabangg’ in which Salman Khan donned the role of a ‘Robin Hood’ police officer Chulbul Pandey. ‘Dabangg’ became a big commercial hit that created box-office records all over country.
‘Osthi’ has new face Richa Gangopadhyay as the leading lady. Initially, Sonakshi Sinha, who debuted in films and played the leading lady in ‘Dabangg’, was first considered for the heroine’s role. But, Sonakshi and also Sonam Kapoor, another Bollywood actress, could not make it for various reasons.
Jithan Ramesh plays an important role in the film. Sonu Sood, who played the villain in ‘Dabangg’ is playing his role again in the Tamil version. Santhanam, Saranya Mohan, Nizhalgal Ravi, Revathi, Ganesh and Mayilsamy play other prominent roles.
Bollywood bombshell Mallika Sherawat is doing an item song in the film. The song ‘Kalasala’ is ‘Osthi’s Tamil equivalent for the Hindi big hit ‘Munni Badnam Hui…’ that another Bollywood bombshell Malaikka Arora Khan sizzled! Actress Mallika Sherawat was paid a whopping big sum for the song, it is reported.
For the above ‘Osthi’ item number, it is allegedly reported, that Simbhu approached many leading Tamil actresses including Shriya and Nayanthara. But, they rejected the offers, it is said. The voice for ‘Kalasala’ was lent by veteran playback singer L R Easwari and T Rajendar.
The film is directed by Dharani, who delivered big hits like ‘Dhill’ and ‘Dhool’ with Vikram and ‘Ghilli’ with Vijay.
Thaman of ‘Eeram’ fame is scoring the music. The audio of the film will be released on 19 October. Sony Music is releasing the album.
Camera is handled by Gopinath and editing is by V T Vijayan.
The film is produced by Mohan Apparao and T Ramesh of Balaji Real Media.
‘Osthi’ was actually scheduled for Diwali release. Since the climax and post-production works are still pending, and also bigger films like ‘7aam Arivu’ of Murugadoss and Vijay’s ‘Velayudham’ are releasing on Diwali day, the makers have postponed the film to another date.
Now, ‘Osthi’ will be released on the 18th of November!
