This year has been a big year for Tamil cinema. It had many hit films; some were super hits and some blockbusters. The industry was also recognized with national awards with maximum and major awards won by Tamil films. It was for high creativity, acting skills and technological innovation that Tamil films were recognized.
Here is the list of Tamil films that kept cash registers ringing at box-office. The interesting thing is that these films also earned appreciations of both the critics and the applause of the audience.
1. ‘Mankatha’ – Cast: Ajith Kumar, Arjun, Trisha, Vaibhav, Anjali, Andrea, Premgi Amaren. Direction: Venkat Prabhu. Verdict – Blockbuster
2. ‘Ko’ – Cast: Jiiva, Karthiga, Ajmal, Piaa. Direction: K V Anand. Verdict - Blockbuster.
3. ‘Kanchana’ – Cast: Raghava Lawrence, Sarathkumar, Lakshmi Rai, Kovai Sarala. Direction: Raghava Lawrence. Verdict - Blockbuster.
4. ‘Engeyum Eppodhum’ – Cast: Jai, Anjali, Sharvanand, Ananya. Direction: M Saravanan. Verdict - Super hit.
5. ‘Velayudham’ – Cast: Vijay, Genelia D’ Souza, Hansika Motwani. Direction: M Raja. Verdict – Hit.
6. ‘7aam Arivu’ – Cast: Suriya, Shruti Hassan, Johnny Tri Nguyen. Direction: A R Murugadoss. Verdict - Hit
7. ‘Aadukalam’ – Cast: Dhanush, Tapsee. Direction: Vetrimaaran. Verdict – Hit
8. ‘Siruthai’ – Cast: Karthi, Tamannaah, Santhanam. Direction: Shiva. Verdict – Hit

Avan-Ivan, Kaavalan and Mayakkam Enna also did some good business. Vaaga Sooda Vaa and Aaranya Kaandam are the big films that were highly appreciated by the critics, though they did not make good business.
