Protest Against Tamil Film in Karnataka, Vijay’s ‘Velayudham’ Affected!

Velayutham-movie-postersHolding protest against Tamil interests is very common in the state of Karnataka. Some time back, it was river Cauvery that was the bone of contention between the states and big attacks were launched against Tamils in Karnataka. Now, the chauvinists have taken their rod again.

This time it is again Tamil cinema that came under heavy attacks!

Already there is a stricture that non Kannada films can release only a limited screening so that the prospects of Kannada films are not affected. During this Diwali, ‘7aam Arivu’ and ‘Velayudham’ saw a big number of screenings in Karnataka and incurred the wrath of many Kannada film producers and Kannada chauvinist group ‘Kannada Rakshana Vedika’. On November 1st, a group of protestors tore down the posters of Tamil film ‘Velayudham’ and attacked a theatre in Bangalore screening the film.

“It is just an attack on a Tamil film and not particularly on ‘Velayudham’. This is very common there in Karnataka. Now, everything is normal and the film is running smoothly without any hindrance”, says ‘Jeyam’ Raja, the director of the film.
