Mani Ratnam’s ‘Pookadai’ Heroine Confirmed!

Renowned director Mani Ratnam has already created a big wave about ‘Pookadai’ even before the official launch of the film. The film has been in news since its announcement for one reason or other. First, it was for the story and the setting the film was much discussed. Gautham, son of yesteryear hero ‘Navarasa Nayagan’ Karthik, was announced to be the protagonist of the film. Pasupathy, Lal and Lakshmi Manchu were then roped in to play crucial roles in the film.
The latest news on the film front is about the female lead of the film. Yes, the actor who is going to play the love interest of Gautham is finalized and it is none other than young and upcoming south actress Samantha who is being confirmed by the director after a screen test. With the announcement the long drawn speculation of the film’s heroine has come to an end. Radha’s second daughter Tulsi, Kamal Hassan Akshara Kamal and Parthiepan’s daughter Keerthana’s names surfaced and finally the director has signed in the heroine of the film.
Samantha is currently acting in Gautham Menon’s trilingual ‘Neethane En Ponvasantham’ with Jiiva in Tamil, Nani in Telugu and Aditya Roy Kapoor in Hindi. ‘Pookadai’ has A R Rahman for music and Rajeev Menon for camera. The film tells the story about the plight of the fishermen at the hands of Sri Lankan security forces on the southern coasts of Tamil Nadu, with an intense love story entwined in it.
