Film ‘Mayakkam Enna’ in Legal Trouble?

‘Mayakkam Enna’ was a successful film for both Dhanush and director Selvaraghavan.
The film’s content and songs were highly appreciated for its innovative filming and visuals.
But, one K Ramasubramaniam has lodged a complaint against the director of the film for a song that features in the film. The complainant has stated, “the song ‘Kadhal En Kadhal Athu En Kanneerula…’ has words like ‘Adida Avala, Othaida Avala, Vetra Avala, Thevaye illa…’ that are derogatory, intimating and that is instigating violence against women. The song was written and sung by Dhanush and Selvaraghavan. In a country where women are seen as Sakthi these words would only bring a bad picture about women among the young people.”
Gitanjali, wife of Selvaraghavan, while commenting on the complaint says, “This song is sung only in a jolly mood and not a serious one. There are many worse songs in Tamil films that describe the women’s physical body in an abusive and objectionable way and nobody has made any complaint against that. And, where can we draw the line whether it is objectionable or not?”
