Can Dhanush’s Song ‘Why This Kolaveri Di…’ Surpass Vijay’s ‘Appadi Podu…’?

The soup song ‘Why this Kolaveri Di…’ sung by Dhanush for the upcoming film ‘3’ directed by his wife Aishwarya Rajinikanth has become a rage nationwide. The voice and the tunes by Dhanush and composer Anirudh is showered with appreciations from different quarters of the country including from the biggies of south cinema and Bollywood.
As the song has taken the nation by storm there has been a discussion already started that whether this soup song would surpass the popularity of another big hit song, again from Tamil, Vijay’s ‘Appadi Podu…’ that also took the nation by storm when it was released in 2003 and the popularity reached a new height in 2005 with Bollywood and other industries using either the tune or the lines of the song in their films. While Vijay’s song took 2 years to reach the audience of the whole nation Dhanush’s number took only just a week to hit the hearts of the entire nation.
Will Dhanush’s song surpass Vijays’ in popularity? We have to wait till the movie ‘3’ is released as even the visuals of the film ‘Ghilli’ for which the song ‘Appadi Podu…’ was composed by Vidyasagar attracted million filmgoers that time. Only after the release of the film ‘3’ and seeing the visuals for the song we can tell whether ‘Why this Kolaveri Di…’ would surpass ‘Appadi Podu…’!
