Ra.One – Music Review

raone-music-reviewAlready the country was going crazy about ‘Chammak Challo…’, and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan came down to Chennai to make the Tamil audience also to go ‘Chammak Challo…’ by launching the audio of his mega movie ‘Ra.One’s Tamil version!

The music album consist 6 songs. The tunes are composed by the duo Vishal and Sekhar along with Akon, the international R & B and Pop singer and song writer. Lyricist Vairamuthu has written all the 6 songs.

Here we see the review of the music and songs of the album ‘Ra.One’!

1. Muthada Chammak Challo

The album’s first track is ‘Muthada Chammak Challo…’ The song became very popular even before the release of the album in Hindi. Now, after the release in Tamil even the Tamil music lovers would keep humming ‘Muthada Chammak Challo’! Akon, Vishal Dadlani and Hamsika Iyer have sung the song.

‘Vana Beema Chammak Challo’ is the only line that we got to hear clearly in the song. And, some words like ‘Ennai Pol Pennai Paarthu Mayanga Maattiya’ in Hamsika Iyer’s voice also come clear at some places. Music and the beats are very energetic that what Punjabi ‘Bhangra’ songs give us. In spite of the dipping words we don’t get disappointed because of the nice instrumentations – the drum beats that comes with the sounds of Bagpiper.

The song’s beats and tunes resemble American Rapper Timbaland’s popular hit track ‘Give It to Me…’ from the 2007 album ‘Shock Value’ in which he sings featuring Pop singers Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake.

ra-one-music-reviewThe Hindi version of ‘Chammak Challo’ has many versions – Punjabi Remix, Club Remix and International Remix.

The song’s visuals have Shah Rukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor and other very big group of Indian and International dancers dancing with colourful dresses!

2. Pacchai Poove

Next track comes with local flavor in lyrics. The tune is entirely new. Sung by Shankar Mahadevan, Akon and Shalini Singh the song has good musical score that comes with Rock beats.

The funny lines ‘En Kanavil Vanthu Anna Sonna, Aasailyil Vanthu Anushka Sonna, Cell Phone-il Vanthu Sneha Sonna…’ bring smiles in our face. Thanks to Vairamuthu!

The song comes in a setting when Shah Rukh Khan woos Kareena Kapoor, and beautiful dance sequences and costumes add beauty to the visuals.

3. Poo Ulagama (Jildara)

The song is yet another beautiful composition with the flavor of ‘Qawwali’ music in the voices of Shankar Mahadevan, Unni Menon and Mithoon. The high pitches of Shankar Mahadevan’s voice mesmerize us. The Hindi word ‘Dildara’ is changed to ‘Jildara’ in the Tamil version that adds beauty to the song. The English Chorus also sounds nice.

The lines like ‘Jildara, Jildara… Oru Kaadhal Sugame Tharuvaaya… Jildara, Jildara… Oru Mutham thanai Tharuvaaya…’ tells the love of the hero towards the heroine. Vairamuthu has penned many romantic lines like this.

In the visuals Shah Rukh Khan is shown expressing his love to Kareena Kapoor and the colourful visuals - both interior and exterior settings – makes viewer also fall in love.

4. En Uyir

Chinmayi has lent her voice to this song and the base is inspired from Ghazal songs. A Pathos that depicts the feelings of a girl’s love to a boy! Though the Rhythm of the song and the BGM do not sync at places the voice of Chinmayi balances it. Tabla sound is the only solace in the music.

Even the lines like ‘Mannin Mel Maamalaiyum…’ is just another ordinary writing!

5. Ulagam Ulagam

Definitely a Jolly song! Sung by Naresh Iyer the song takes you to the dancing floors. Nice beat and excellent lyrics.

The song expresses the love and ecstasy of the hero that lifts you too to the bliss of love!

6. Yaarukum Nenje

Another high energy song that inspires you and raise your spirits! Resembles our ‘Isai Puyal’ A R Rahman tunes and beats, this song is truly inspirational with powerful lyrics of Vairamuthu. Also, at some places the music takes you to the 80s Hindi music and sounds like ‘Qurbani’ songs.

The wordings, ‘Thunbatthil Thunai Undu, Padaiyundu…’ and ‘Vidiyaatha Iravethum Illai Mudiyaatha Seyal yethum Illai…’ definitely raises your energy and spirits! Shankar Mahadevan’s voice is a major plus to this track!

So, which track is the pick of the Album? Definitely ‘Muthada Chammak Challo…’!

The Albums sound tracks were recorded at YRF Studios, Mumbai and Smecky Studios, Prague and the Tamil voice tracks at Chennai. The original album was released by T-Series and the Tamil version is taken care of Abirami Ramanathan, who is also distributing the full length film in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
